Dear Yarn Lady,

I spent two months making a sweater for my boyfriend, and when I gave it to him he just said “thanks,” like it was a fleece from Old Navy. Then I made a scarf for my sister and she took one look at it and said she didn’t like the color. Should I just give up on making gifts for other people?

    Sincerely,

    Unappreciated in Seattle

    Dear Unappreciated,

God, girl. If you’re gonna make him a sweater, make him one in your size and in a color you like. As for your sister, try to take solace in the knowledge that you’ve always been the smart one.

    Love,

    The Yarn Lady

    Dear Yarn Lady,

I want to visit your shop, but   I’ve already got waaaay too much yarn stashed in my closets. What do I do?

    Skeinfully Yours,

    Betsy

    Dear Betsy,

I have the same problem. (If it makes you feel better, call it a “collection” instead of a stash.)That’s why I carry tons of books and patterns with lots of ideas for how to use the yarn you’ve already got. We automatically receive the latest books and magazines as well as the classics that are hard to find. Take that yarn out of the closet and bring it in and we’ll help you match it to a project!

    Love,

    The Yarn Lady

    Dear Yarn Lady,

I keep catching my boyfriend in bed with other men. Do you think he’s gay?

    Sincerely,

    Too Many Hanks

    Dear TMH,

Yes, dear. I think so. But we’ve got a whole group of ladies who you can commiserate with. Stop by any time, or join one of our Thursday night or Saturday morning Project Knitting Classes. Bring wine, or in your case, vodka.

    Love,

    Dear Yarn Lady,

I’m still having trouble with gauge and really need help. I’m just not going to work this out myself. Which class or time frame should I sign up for? I’m thinking a session with a patient professional would do wonders (or at least awareness) for me.

    Thanks,

    PBCM

    Dear PBCM,

Yes, patient professional help is probably all that you need. Drop by one of the Projects Knitting Classes with Marguerite (check our current newsletter for times). She has such a talent for working people through a problem.

With gauge in hand, I remain,

    The Yarn Lady
